Project
ENVIRONMENT-FRIENDLY SCHOOLS NETWORK is a socio-community intervention action that arises from research since 2018 at the IFC SL “Climate change and the construction of resilient communities. Preparation of action protocols for environmental disaster situations in the province of San Luis, Argentina.” In the field work, highly vulnerable rural educational institutions were detected at times of environmental contingencies, evidenced by isolation and lack of communication. Directors and teachers have a role in containing and organizing their communities, since when water floods the classrooms or the fire reaches the playground, they are the ones who protect the lives of their students. This experience shared by the community with the research team made us rethink a new challenge: the creation of a network of 28 associated schools, preparing communities to reduce risks to natural disasters, training them with concrete and connected tools for action.
- Establish a communication network for rural schools and those in flood and forest fire hazard areas in the Río Quinto, Conlara, and Northwest regions of San Luis province.
- Design a protocol for the network of schools and rural communities outlining actions to take in the event of environmental disasters.
- Develop educational materials about the environment hazards specific to these areas and their mitigation measures.
- Systematically inform and engage community members on issues related to reducing environment hazards.
- Create an early warning app.
